Overview

Doki-Doki Nine-Thirty is a visual novel about racing the clock — and resisting small talk. You play as Maya, who oversleeps and has five minutes to make it to a 9:30 exam. Unlike most visual novels that center planned choices to build relationships, this game flips the script: your goal is to avoid distractions and reach the classroom on time, offering a playful reflection on small talk, friendship, and how players relate to NPCs when time is scarce.

Design goals

To subvert visual-novel expectations by making time the dominant constraint. Encourage spontaneous interactions (or strategic non-interactions) rather than “perfect-choice” planning, and use the time pressure to highlight the social frictions of everyday chatter.
